OUR FOCUS

We are interested in how bacteria produce and/or respond to biologically active small molecules and we will explore any technology needed to answer these questions. Nothing is off-limits here when we study nature at the molecular level.

Small Molecules

More than 70% of our therapeutics are naturally-produced small molecules. We continue to look for molecules with individual or combination activity: antibacterial, anti-fungal, immunosuppressant & anti-cancers.

Microorganisms

We scavenge for novel small molecules from various microorganisms found in the soil, marine sediments and marine invertebrates. Alongside, we study how bacteria confer multi-drug resistance through techniques such as transcriptomics, resistant-mutants and biochemical assays.

Model Systems

Microbes are constantly adapting to their changing environment and stresses. We seek to understand how microbes sense such changes and how they respond by using our model system of Streptomycetes.
